Opened in 1932, The War Memorial was built as "a great community center" dedicated to the memory of Mercer County residents who died fighting World War I. The building is a National and State Historic Site. It was re-opened for public use in 1999 after a five-year historic preservation and renovation. It was rededicated by the Governor and the Legislature as a memorial to New Jersey's dead in all wars and armed conflicts, and as a monument honoring the state's veterans.
The War Memorial exists to serve the public as a rental venue, offering meeting, conference and performance space. There is a two-tiered rental fee schedule. One schedule applies to the general public and to potential renters who are for-profit enterprises; the other schedule is for not-for-profit organizations, which are required to document their status as tax-exempt 501C-3 corporations.
